Is cell ministry a good idea for a local church?
Another way to look at cell ministry is small groups. Small groups are very effective and biblical. In fact, Sunday school is about small groups. Often times, small groups or effective because it brings people together who share common interest, experiences, and needs. It also allows for more one-on-one personal interaction and establishing ties and friends within the church.
If your question deals with weather a church should cancel midweek services in favor of small groups meeting in various places on a weekly basic is a question that deserves a lot of careful scrutiny. Quite frankly, it has worked wonderfully in some places and dreadfully in other.
You need to counsel with pastor’s who have had experiences in this area, both positive and negative. Cell groups work best where there is a clear need, clear vision and purpose, and well trained leadership who are closely supervised by the pastor of other qualified person appointed by the pastor. This cannot work without the pastor’s full support and involvement.
You can have cell groups that meet from time to time without cancelling any services.
